How to track URL clicks in your emails
In addition to tracking email opens with pixels, you also might want to track actual link clicks. Every click on a tracking URL provides insights into which parts of your content are most engaging.
What is a tracking URL?
A tracking URL is a special redirect link that collects data (IP address, user-agent, timestamp) before sending the user to their final destination. The end-user experiences a seamless transition, while you gain valuable data on click-through rates.
Track email clicks in 4 steps
- Compose your email as normal.
- Generate tracking URLs in your dashboard.
- Replace your original links with the tracking versions.
- Send your email and monitor real-time click data.
1. Compose your email
Start by preparing your email content. Identify the links you want to track—such as "Buy Now" buttons, article links, or contact buttons.
2. Generate tracking URLs
In your JustOpened dashboard, navigate to your mail tracking campaign. Under the Urls section, enter your destination link (e.g., https://yoursite.com/product) and click Add.
3. Insert the tracking URLs
Copy the generated URLs (e.g., https://justopened.com/url/xyz123) and use them in your email composition instead of the original destination links.
4. Analyze and Optmize
Once sent, clicks will appear in the "Urls" panel of your analytics page. Use this data to see which links perform best and optimize your email strategy accordingly.
